Why health professionals?
couldn’t anyone perform a drug test?
In a perfect world where everyone is negative and nobody takes medications or feels anxious about taking a drug and alcohol test, or if there was no health risk of spreading sickness and disease; it possibly wouldn’t matter all that much.
However, more often than not; people can feel anxious when encountering a drug and alcohol test. They often have concerns like those surrounding the privacy, communication and handling of their test results. There is also a very real risk of sometimes confusing cross reacting medications and pathogen transfer spreading sickness and disease. Pathogen transfer could easily occur where testing is performed by inadequately trained & under qualified collectors.
Those not taking illicit drugs are likely to be taking some sort of medication for which only a health professional can adequately deal with the myriad of possible cross reactivity issues. It also helps immensely if this cross reactivity can be properly explained to the person being tested (and from a health-care medical perspective).
safety:
Its also no secret that samples such as oral fluid can harbour pathogens and disease. Our medical staff are qualified to ensure that risks to your staff are minimised. This can only be achieved from a clinical approach to the collection process.
As an employer, we also understand that you can be anxious to ensure that your workforce is treated with respect. It is also vitally important that staff who test negative have a good experience during testing and can get on with their work without disruption.
respect, care & privacy:
Of course the majority of people that we test will not test positive and their experience with the testing process must also be performed respectfully and with a caring approach.
Our health professional collectors are trained in ensuring that your workplace is not unduly disrupted by testing activities. We also ensure that all staff are treated with respect, privacy, clinical hygiene and concern for their health and welfare.
Our staff are also very skilled in performing on-site drug testing efficiently and compliantly. We also ensure that your valuable staff are not disrupted by testing activities more than is entirely necessary.
Drug and alcohol strategy
A comprehensive drug and alcohol strategy reaches far beyond the drug testing service alone. In fact performing drug testing without also performing on-going education and adopting other behavioural tools is unlikely to establish a drug and alcohol free workplace culture.
A myriad of academics state that drug testing of itself does not adequately address the issue of workplace drug and alcohol use.
Modern programs now go far beyond simply performing a test and leaving the HR department to handle positive test results.
Historically there is often very little strategic approach in Australian & New Zealand drug and alcohol programs This tends to mean that it is often very difficult to determine how well the program is performing.
We can help formulate a strategy which will have clear goals and objectives as well as measurement tools. This will help you in monitoring the success of the drug testing service. We can also assist with various tools to help shift attitude towards drug and alcohol safety in the workplace.
